IND Women vs NZ Women 2024/25, IND-W vs NZ-W 1st ODI Match Report, October 24, 2024
44.3 more India 227 (Hasabnis 42, Deepti 41, Amelia Kerr 4-42, Jess Kerr 3-49) vs. New Zealand
Fresh from winning the Women’s T20 World Cup, New Zealand’s spinners combined to take seven wickets in ten wickets to bowl India out for 227 in the first women’s ODI in Ahmedabad.
The pair looked comfortable against spin, guiding the ball to the outside area to keep the scorecard buzzing. Hasabnis showed his strength against spin especially when he went deep around Amelia’s legspin to slice it past the backward point. The two picked up the pace as they combined in their partnership of 61 runs off just 70 balls.
But Rodriguez missed a clip on Bates and was adjudged lbw, the review reversing the umpire’s call on impact. Then on 42, Hasabnis couldn’t resist charging a high-pitched delivery from Amelia and was stumped. Deepti Sharma and Arundhati Reddy kept things going with their 37 off 47 but 250 looked a long way off for India.
Deepti showed great intent from the moment she came in at number 7. He hit a few fours and a six during his stay and was the last man to bat with 41, his best score in ODIs since September 2022. When he missed. sweeping to bowl, it looked like India left a few runs in the ground where the ball was not behaving well and the stroke play was not too difficult.
