The Impact Player rule in the IPL doesn’t go down well with current players and coaches, but former India coach Ravi Shastri agrees with it, saying it has contributed to many exciting finishes.

“Impact Player is like a test case. We did it slowly. The best thing is that two Indian players get a chance. DC coach Ricky Ponting said he was happy the IPL had retained the Impact Player if it made the tournament a “better spectacle”. But in his view as a coach, he admitted that he was not following this rule, calling it a “nightmare”.
