IPL 2025 – Dwayne Bravo parts with CSK, joins KKR as consultant
ESPNcricinfo has learned that Bravo recently met KKR CEO Venky Mysore during the CPL before agreeing to a long-term contract. Apart from KKR, he will be managing all the franchises under the Knight Riders label in the T20 leagues: Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC) and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20).
“DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development.” Mysore said in a statement. “His passion to win, along with his vast experience and depth of knowledge, will greatly benefit the franchise and our players.”
“I have been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the past 10 years in the CPL. Having played and faced the Knight Riders in different competitions, I have a lot of respect for the way they operate,” Bravo said in a statement. “The passion of the owners, the efficiency of the management, and the family-like atmosphere make it a special place. This is the right platform for me as I transition from playing to coaching and training the next generation of players.”
The advisory role with KKR is Bravo’s second team management position in the IPL. After joining CSK in 2011, he retired from the IPL after the 2022 season and joined the franchise as the bowling coach from the 2023 season. Bravo had an immediate success in his first coaching role as CSK won the title in 2023, to go with his three titles as a player. Among the best death bowlers in T20 cricket, Bravo is the third highest wicket-taker in IPL history and the first bowler to win two wickets in the tournament.
With more than 500 T20s, Bravo is regarded by players and peers as one of the best tacticians and motivators, qualities that have elevated him to the West Indies captaincy. He had retired from international cricket after the 2021 T20 World Cup, and while he continued to play in T20 leagues (Mumbai Emirates in the ILT20, Texas Super Kings in the MLC and TKR in the CPL), he gradually moved on in training. During the 2024 T20 World Cup, Bravo played a major role as the coach of Afghanistan, helping the team to enter the semi-finals for the first time in its history.
