Dhoni emphasized that in the IPL, everyone feels like they “own the team,” with opinions about who to buy and what strategies to follow, making the auction a much-discussed and scrutinized event.

“Everyone owns a club now. Whichever player they want, which player is coming to the auction, who are they going to buy, we have to do this, the IPL auction is like that,” Dhoni said at RIGI Prabhav 2024.

Dhoni also highlighted the unpredictability of the auction, saying that the players do not know their future teams. He also mentioned that fans enjoy guessing which players will join them.

“People enter the auction, and you don’t know where you are going. The best part is the fans as they predict which team a certain player will go to,” he added.

The former wicket-taker emphasized that in the IPL auction, each team has money to buy, so players must be ready to play for any team that chooses them. This is a unique feature of the IPL auction.

“Look, you’re in the market, and every team has money. Whoever buys you, you will have to play for him. That’s the beauty of the IPL auction,” concluded the boy from Ranchi.
