IPL CSK News – MS Dhoni – ‘I want to enjoy the game for the next few years’

MS Dhoni said he wants to enjoy “whatever the last few years of cricket” he can play. Although there are still doubts about his availability for IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan said last week that he is hopeful that Dhoni will be part of the upcoming season.

“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I can play,” Dhoni said at a promotional event in Goa. “Like how in our childhood we used to go out to play when we were 4 years old[pm]I enjoy the game. But when you play a professional game it becomes difficult to enjoy the game as just a game. So what I want to do is, there are emotions and commitment, but I want to enjoy the game for the next few years. “

October 31 is the deadline by which the ten franchises have to submit their list of players retained in the IPL before the big auction, and this year Dhoni is eligible to be retained by CSK as an uncapped player. That came after the IPL brought back a rule that was scrapped in 2021, where a player could not be considered retired after five years of international cricket retirement.
Dhoni had batted down the order throughout IPL 2024, coming out to face a handful of deliveries. Although the management of work due to his knee surgery was one of the reasons for his decision, Dhoni also revealed that it was to give playing time to the Indian players who were in contention for the T20 World Cup.

“My thinking was simple, if others are doing their job well why should I issue an order,” said Dhoni. “If you talk about the last year (season) in particular, the T20 World Cup team was going to be announced soon. So we have to give a chance to the people who are fighting for a place. In our team (CSK) we had a few teams, [Ravindra] Jadeja was there, Shivam Dube was there so it gives them a chance to prove themselves to be in the Indian team. There was nothing for me, no choice and other things. So I’m well behind [playing down the order] and my team was happy with what I was doing.”

Dhoni: ‘Love the way teams are playing Tests now’

Dhoni admitted that he is a Bazball fan. He said he “loves” the result-oriented nature of Test cricket when asked if he is a fan of this high-risk, fearless form of cricket.

“You can give cricket any term you want, what we have seen is that cricket has changed,” said Dhoni. “The way people play cricket is very different. There was a time when in ODIs something was considered a safe score, now scores are not safe even in T20s.

“You give something away, it becomes more fun because you start talking about it, you start relating to it but at the end of the day what is that? It’s a way of playing cricket. Some people want to play aggressive cricket, some people want to play original cricket. A lot of that depends on the type of team you have – whether they can change the way they play that cricket The important thing is to see the strength of your team the team decides which way you want to play cricket but it’s not possible overnight to say, ‘let’s start playing like this tomorrow’ You need to give time to each person because maybe 10-12-15 years of cricket and they have a certain way to play cricket, so you need to give them that time to change.”

Dhoni said that there were “difficult” days back when he was playing Tests, especially when he knew that the game was coming to an end.

“For me, the most difficult time during the Test was the fifth day of the match which is the last day when you know that 100% it will be a draw,” he said. “I still needed to keep about 2.5 sessions and that was very tiring for me. You can see that there is no result, you play the way. Yes, the bowlers would like to take wickets, the batsmen will try to score runs. , [but] there is no result in the game. You think let’s end this and go, why should I be here. So I love that there is a change in the way teams play Test cricket.

“Imagine telling someone who doesn’t know much about cricket that we play for five days and we start at 9.30 and 4.30 is the end of the game, we play until 5.[pm] sometimes, and after five days we don’t get the result. That’s not fair in the game. So I like that there are more consequences in today’s world. Even if we only play four days of cricket and one day is washed out, you still get the result – that’s the beauty of Test cricket and it should stay that way – you want to get the result after five days and you shouldn’t. take it out.”
