As we approach free agency on July 1st, Florida Panthers GM Bill Zito has a lot of work to do on his roster. The big question will be when he announces the deal for star pitcher Sam Reinhart. Reinhart was a 57 goal scorer and became a free agent on July 1.

Frankie Corrado: “Yes, Sam Reinhart is a $10 million player. He is a $10-plus-million player. And you have to start with the unique platform year of Sam Reinhart, who scored 57 goals and has 94 points. It’s not every year that we see a player with so many goals come down to the phone on July 1st, making his decision on an extension where he is currently playing before hitting the open market.

And that leads me to believe that there will be two separate markets for Sam Reinhart. There will be a Florida market and every NHL market. Florida’s market will have to decrease according to their tax results, but they should do as far as signing other players. And the tax situation there and the lifestyle that comes with playing for the Florida Panthers. There is much to be desired for that
In terms of opening things up to the rest of the NHL, that’s where it would have to be $10 plus, and you have to look at a contract comparable to William Nylander and this is a player drafted in the same year as Sam Reinhart. Their numbers have been compared throughout their careers. And William Nylander may be a strong player, but Sam Reinhardt’s defense this year has been among the best in the NHL.
William Nylander is now signing an extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs for over $11 million. So there, you would think that Sam Reinhart should qualify as a $10-plus million player. There is no doubt about that. It will be very interesting to see how things work out for Sam Reinhart.

But if you’re the other party calling, you should blow Florida’s offer out of the water because it will certainly be competitive. If you want to find a way to steal Sam Reinhart, it better be $10 and maybe close to that William Nylander or $11 plus million deal.
