Jake Paul’s street taste is not taken

Written by: Sean Crose

Give it to Jake Paul – the man keeps working. After July’s big fight with Mike Tyson was postponed (if not completely scrapped), the social media influencer turned professional boxer could have taken it easy. That sort of thing, however, just isn’t Paul’s style. Instead of kicking back in the summer, Paul decided to challenge himself. So, the fighter known as the “Problem Child” will be facing a grudge match against Mike Perry on Saturday night in Tampa, Florida. The scheduled eight-rounder will be the main event of DAZN’s pay-per-view card.

Although Perry has only fought once – in a losing fight in 2015 – the 32-year-old from Flint, Michigan has won five straight since entering the world of bare-knuckle boxing in 2022. Rockhold and Eddie Alvarez became Perry’s targets within range. Also, although bare boxing is not the same thing as modern professional boxing (which is funny since bare boxing was changed to modern professional boxing back in the late 1800s), there are obvious similarities between the two sports – namely, the ability to punch. high impact and the ability to use fluid footwork.

In short, Paul may lose to Perry this Saturday evening. But that kind of thing is what makes the 27-year-old Ohioan interesting. Sure, Paul has flagging power and sure, he’s been pretty smart over the last few years, yet Paul’s ability to take on tough challenges has had a lot to do with what has been a successful run thus far. Even when defeated – as he did to Tommy Fury a few years ago – Paul refuses to be broken. He may not have the talent that the best boxers have, but Paul deserves credit for taking the road less traveled.
