Jerami Grant Wants to Stay with Trail Blazers – Basketball Insiders

It’s no secret that the Portland Trail Blazers are looking to pick up the pieces in the Damian Lillard era. However, one key player currently on their roster wants to keep it long-term. That would be the front, Jerami Grant. The main reason for Grant wanting to stay in Portland is that he wants family stability. Portland is also his hometown. Yahoo! Sports expert, Jake Fischer, first reported the veteran forward’s comments.

Few players want to deal with the usual uncertainty of mid-season travel, especially those enjoying new stability for the first time in their careers. That has been the same word for Portland forward Jerami Grant, sources said, despite rival teams’ interest in the veteran Trail Blazer.

The Trail Blazers finished with a 33-49 record but have a crop of young talent that they look to develop for the future.

Jerami Grant’s numbers

Grant has been a solid and reliable role player throughout his career. Last season with the Trail Blazers, he averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 total rebounds, 2.8 assists per game, and a career-high 40.2 percent three-point shooting percentage for a journeyman power forward. While it didn’t translate to big-team success, he had his moments as one of Portland’s go-to options. So far in Grant’s time in Portland and counting, he has averaged 20.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists per game, and an effective field goal percentage of 53.6 percent. Jerami Grant also inked a five-year deal a year ago, so it looks like the Trail Blazers will at least have some leadership as they look to continue their rebuild.

Portland Trail Blazers: Another Team Looking to Rebuild

Ever since Damian Lillard left town, things have been going as well as one can imagine for the Trail Blazers. They quickly became a lottery team finishing 13thth in the Western Conference last year. Still, there’s plenty of young talent on this Portland roster to be excited about for years to come. Young players like Anfernee Simons, Scoot Henderson, and Shaedon Sharpe are all strong. Not to mention, many peers are happy with their lottery pick, Donovan Clingan. Some even believe he could be the best player to come out of this summer’s draft class. Considering all of this, Jerami Grant’s leadership will be important to the youth of Portland going forward.
