JJ Redick Is Officially The New Lakers Coach And He Doesn’t Give An IF ***k What You Think

JJ Redick had his introductory press conference as the new head coach of the Lakers and he had nothing to say.

It wasn’t long before he spoke to the elephant in the room.

“I’ve never coached in the NBA before,” Redick said. “I don’t know if you have heard that thing.

The former ESPN analyst explained that coaching in the NBA has been on his radar for a while.

“It wasn’t until I interviewed for the Toronto job last year that I knew I wanted to be a head coach in the NBA,” Redick said. “So last year, I spent a lot of time talking to coaches, talking to GMs, picking their brains. … I felt like this is what I had to do.”

Another big question everyone had about Redick was whether he would continue his podcast, Mind the Game, with LeBron James.

“Right now, and hopefully for a very long time, I’m out of contention,” Redick said. “So there won’t be a podcast. … I’m done with podcasting for now.”

LeBron kept his distance from Redick during the interview, he shared.

“He didn’t give advice,” Redick said. “LeBron and I didn’t talk about the Lakers job until Thursday afternoon about 30 minutes after I was offered the job. And that was a big goal on both our parts. “

His best answer at a press conference came when he was asked if he wanted to dispel misconceptions about him.

“It’s a reasonable question. And I’ve heard it all,” Redick said.

“It’s been really fun for six weeks or so, in terms of being part of the farming industry, it’s been really fun. However, I don’t really have a good answer to your question because I don’t give a f***.

“I want to coach the Lakers. I want to coach the team. I don’t want to chase anything. I want to be the best coach in the NBA, and I want to win titles. And I want my players to expand their careers. That’s all I care about.”
