JJ Redick’s ESPN Colleagues Have Questions Surrounding Lakers’ Coaching Job
JJ Redick will officially interview for the Lakers coaching role this weekend and there are people in his life who have their own questions for Redick about the role, ESPN’s Brain Windhorst said.
“I have no doubt that JJ will do well because he has been preparing for this for a long time,” said Windhorst. ESPN’s Wake Up. “I think the question being asked here is how much should JJ really want for this job?” And that’s one of the reasons why I think there are people in his life, actually, I know there are people in his life, who have said ‘Are you sure this is the opportunity you want? Is this what you want to leave behind? Because this is a very challenging job.’
“The head coach of the Lakers is one of the four or five most coveted coaching jobs in all of sports. You’re talking about the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, the manager of the Yankees, the manager of Real Madrid…the Lakers are on that list.
“But JJ has to hear from their franchise, from Rob Pelinka what their intentions are,” Windhorst continued. “How do they see life after LeBron James? How will they spend these clothes in this new place? What are their plans for their roster this offseason? What can they do to help them move up from seventh place?
“This is not just a one-way interview. JJ Redick has a great career. He has a bright future. He can wait for another three or four head coaching opportunities in the next year or two, but that’s one of the big things that will come out of the talks at the weekend, I would expect.”
