Kendrick Perkins Calls Jayson Tatum

Perkins Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum appeared on Jimmy Fallon this week and made a prediction that he will win the MVP for the 2024-25 season and Kendrick Perkins weighs in.

Opened NBA TodayPerkins was asked about Tatum’s prediction and didn’t hold back on the topic, while relating it to his playing days.

“He’s selfish, and that’s a nice way to say it,” Perkins said. “I’m not pessimistic right now, but I want or focus on personal gain, happiness, or well-being without consideration of others,” Perkins said. “Here’s the thing, I understand that basketball is a team sport, and getting titles has helped me explain a lot of things to the boys. I still get called NBA champions to this day.

“If a guy wants to win individual medals, I’ll take it personally. [Kevin Garnett] and I back in 2009, 2010, we actually got into a heated battle, which almost cost us our relationship after winning the championship because KG thought I was playing to try to make the All-Star team, and I was. I had my own personal agenda. And Big Fella had to think about it, he came to me a few days later and said ‘Perk, I’ve got to want you to make the All-Star team, you’ve got to want that for yourself.’ So I have no problem with a player who is selfish and wants to achieve things individually.”
