Kieran Trippier reveals why Man Utd move fell apart

Kieran Trippier has revealed that he came close to joining Manchester United in the 2021 summer transfer window, but the move “fell through” before he could end up at Newcastle United.

The right-back was coming off the back of a fine Euro 2020 campaign with England where he played a key role in the Three Lions’ run to the final.

At this time, Trippier was about to enter his third season with Atletico Madrid, but he was eager to return to England and had an offer to join United.

However, the move fell through and he stayed at Atletico for a few more months before signing for Newcastle in January 2022.

When asked why his move to United fell through, Trippier said: “It just fell through. Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] I was the manager at the time and everything seemed fine, I was shocked, it was Manchester United, the biggest club in the world.

“It didn’t happen, I went back to Madrid, and after six months I was in Newcastle. Everyone raised their eyebrows, it’s obvious that people said he was going for money, he’s going this way and that.
