LeBron considering post-retirement career in broadcasting: ‘We’ll see’

Although LeBron James has refused many times to talk about his impending retirement, the media can’t help but point out that the time will soon come and they want to know what will happen to him. The Lakers star was asked recently about a possible opportunity in the broadcasting industry, and he didn’t deny it was a possibility.

Now that the forward is about to enter his 22nd campaign, with two years left on his contract, there is no doubt that he will be hanging up his basketball shoes for years to come. When it recently appeared on Golic and Gojo podcast, he said “we’ll have to see” if broadcasting is in his future.

“You know, I don’t know — I really love the game,” he said. “I like basketball, I like football. And I’m not just watching as a fan but also breaking down the matchups, just stuff like that. I was introduced to sports. When you grow up in Northeast Ohio, listen, you grow up in sports. It would be great. I can see Tom Brady doing it. He’s been great so far. Again, we’ll see. Even if it’s just a guest appearance. You know, one or two games, when I finish playing.”

James also realized that his love for the game is so strong, he would like to give back to it in some way. “But it’s always nice to give back to the game,” said the star. “The game has given me a lot. So if it’s basketball, if it’s football, whatever – I love the word sports. Because a lot has been given to me and my family and I have to give it back.”

For now, the Los Angeles athlete is determined to continue building his legacy and breaking records while he’s at it. The 39-year-old is just 1,364 points shy of reaching 50,000 points in total. This includes the regular season and playoffs throughout his 21 years.

Through 1,492 NBA regular season games (first 1,490), James has accumulated 40,474 points. In 54 postseason games, the four-time MVP also tallied 8,162 points, bringing his career total to 48,636 points.

In the 2023-24 season, LeBron posted his 20th consecutive campaign of at least 25 points per game, the most in NBA history. Chicago legend Michael Jordan recorded 12 such seasons during his 15-year career.

The purple and gold front office continues to pin their hopes on LeBron and Anthony Davis leading the team to another title.

After the Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs in May, again at the hands of the Denver team, Anthony Davis was asked if he would hire his star to stay in California for his final years as a professional. “Definitely, I feel like we complement each other, we’ve done something special together,” the Lakers starting big man said.

“That’s great, I’ll be with him all summer, so have a lot of conversations and stuff like that. He knows how I feel about him… If he asks me my opinion whenever we talk about it, obviously I will try to persuade him to come back,” he confirmed, as both were selected to play in the Olympics in Paris, winning gold.

After scoring 59 points in a 112-105 Game 3 loss, LeBron shared the same sentiment as AD. “We know what it takes to win a championship and how close you have to be to perfection,” he said of their partnership. “That’s not like something so crazy to find.”

Now with JJ Redick and his son Bronny by his side, James has plenty of motivation to give it his all during his final two seasons remaining on his contract. At 39 years old, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer hopes to win his fifth league title before retiring.
