Leeds are sending a technical director to Germany to complete the deal for Dejan Ljubicic

Leeds United technical director Gretar Steinsson has traveled to Germany to try and complete a deal for Austrian International midfielder Dejan Ljubicic.

It has been a difficult summer for Leeds, who after failing to win promotion to the Premier League are facing the prospect of selling a number of their star players.

Youngster Archie Gray has left Tottenham in a £40m deal, while the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto have been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League.

Steinsson moves to try to finish Ljubicic

Leeds are in a tricky situation, especially in midfield having also lost Glen Kamara to French side Rennes, but they seem to have identified a potential replacement.

The Whites are trying to complete a deal for FC Koln midfielder Ljubicic, and have reportedly already had a £3.37m bid rejected for the Austrian.

The MOT Forum reported that Leeds will review Koln’s decision with an improved offer and have sent technical director Steinsson to Germany to try to secure an agreement over the line.

Ljubicic could be set for a summer move to Leeds.

The Austrian has just 12 months left on his contract with the German second-tier club, so it seems likely that the two clubs should be able to strike a deal.

The 26-year-old joined the German club in 2021 from Austrian side Wien and has scored eight goals in 83 appearances for the club.

The midfielder has some versatility and can play on the right side of the midfielder and as a number six, which would attract Daniel Farke.

Leeds currently have Ethan Ampadu among their midfield ranks and Ljubicic would be a good defensive partner for the Welshman.

The Whites will need to add more quality as they look to get out of the Championship for the second time at the asking, and are likely to have a big budget to strengthen their squad given the players they may have to sell.
