Leeds fans should not be ‘worried’ about the imminent departure of the first-team player

Leeds United could allow Jamie Shackleton to leave the club this summer, according to journalist Dan Bardell.

Now 24, the young England international broke through at Elland Road at the back of the 2018/19 campaign and has made 94 appearances for Leeds in all competitions – including 27 in the Premier League.

However, Shackleton made just 15 appearances for the Whites in all competitions last season, following a loan move to Millwall in 2022/23.

Shackleton’s contract expires this summer and according to reports, Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United are interested in bringing him to Bramhall Lane.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Shackleton – who can play as a midfielder or full-back – with Leeds confirming on their official website in June that they are in talks over a new deal.

Should Leeds let Shackleton go?

Although there are talks about a new contract, it looks like Shackleton will leave Leeds this summer, and Football Insider even said that he has passed a medical with Sheffield United.

According to Sky Sports reporter Bardell, Leeds fans should not be too worried that the university graduate will leave the club given the way his career has stalled in recent years.

“I think it’s probably gone for him at Leeds,” Bardell told MOT Leeds News.

“It is possible that he did not develop as they expected. I think it will be a good move for him but it doesn’t mean losing to Leeds either.

“I think they have bigger concerns than letting Shackleton go this summer to be honest.

“They will wish him well after he gets to the academy but I wouldn’t be too worried about this deal if I was a Leeds fan.
