Leeds have no choice but to sell the fan favorite in a £33m deal

Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville, 22, has become one of the most sought-after players in the Championship following his impressive performances for Leeds United in the 2023/24 season.

With Liverpool and Chelsea reportedly interested, summer transfers look set to increase, especially after the Yorkshire outfit failed to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United, which owes £190 million for transfers made during Andrea Radrizzani’s tenure and recently reported a loss of £33.7 million despite the sale of players, is facing major financial challenges. The club’s financial crisis will make it difficult to retain its top talent, including Summerville.

Summerville joined Leeds from Feyenoord in 2020 and has developed into a key player. In the 2023/24 season, he made 49 appearances in all competitions, starting 45 of those matches. His contribution was huge, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists. Despite his efforts, the Whites failed in their bid for promotion, losing to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley on 26 May.

Crysencio Summerville is wanted by Chelsea and Liverpool

Given his impressive form, Summerville has attracted a lot of attention. The Telegraph reports that Leeds are asking for a fee of around £30 million, a figure that would rival Liverpool and Chelsea. Football Insider points out that Summerville’s exit is “inevitable” due to Leeds’ failure to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Summerville’s recognition as the Tournament Player of the Year underscores his talent and impact on the field. His ability to score goals and create goals makes him a valuable asset to any top-flight team.

Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, is a big fan of the club who tried to sign him in the January transfer window for Feyenoord. And it’s possible the 45-year-old could finally find Summerville this summer as he puts his Liverpool squad together for the first time.
