Lille are working to sign the former Man United striker

Anthony Martial is still without a club after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season as a free agent.

The start of the summer saw the French striker finally draw a line under his time at Old Trafford.

Completing nine years at Old Trafford, Martial, 28, is now a free agent and can choose his next club.

And according to a recent report from French company RMC Sport, the 28-year-old is being targeted by Ligue 1 side Lille.

Lille are working on a deal to sign Anthony Martial

The French club’s transfer business has seen them lose several key players this summer, including defender Leny Yoro, who traded places with Martial at Manchester United after the two clubs agreed a £58.9 million deal.

Now that they are about to reinvest some of that money, Lille, led by manager Bruno Genesio, are determined to hire Martial.

Although the former Monaco player is a free agent, the proposed deal would still cost Lille a fair amount. According to Spotrac, Martial’s last contract at United saw him earn £10 million a year, and although the striker may not be paid that much again, he is still expected to be among the highest paid players in Ligue 1.

During almost a decade with United, Martial, who has represented France 30 times, scored 90 goals and registered 47 assists in 317 appearances in all competitions.
