Liverpool among Premier League clubs eyeing Dutch defender; a key feature gives Red an edge
Liverpool are reportedly among a number of Premier League clubs interested in Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida as they look to strengthen their backline following the departure of Joel Matip.
Matip left Liverpool after his contract expired, while Joe Gomez has also been linked with a possible move, with Newcastle United among the clubs reportedly interested in the versatile defender.
According to Dutch outlet ADSportwereld, Liverpool are very interested in Geertruida, who has attracted the attention of many top teams in England.
Apart from Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and West Ham United are all monitoring the Dutchman.
Liverpool may have the edge in the race for Geertruida due to his familiarity with Arne Slot, his former manager at Feyenoord, who recently replaced Jurgen Klopp as Reds head coach.
The 23-year-old defender is entering the final year of his contract with Feyenoord, which expires next June.
This contract situation makes it easy for him to leave the Dutch club this summer to avoid leaving on a free transfer next year.
Geertruida had a brilliant season with Feyenoord
Geertruida has been a standout player for Feyenoord, starting every Eredivisie game this season. He played 34 games, contributing eight goals and five assists in his defensive role.
Geertruida’s ability to play in all positions at the back makes her an attractive addition to any team.
For Liverpool, securing his services would be a significant boost as they aim to strengthen their defense and maintain their competitiveness in the Premier League.
