Liverpool are ‘showing interest’ in the Brentford striker

Liverpool are interested in signing versatile striker Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, according to a report.

The Reds are entering a new era following the departure of the famous Jurgen Klopp, who left his position as manager after nine years in charge.

In his place, Liverpool brought in Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as their new coach as part of a new football structure. The logistics business is expected to be led by FSG’s chief football officer Michael Edwards, and the club’s new sporting director Richard Hughes.

L’Equipe reports that Liverpool, along with Newcastle United, have already ‘expressed an interest’ in Mbeumo.

In an interview with the same forum, Mbeumo opened the door to leave Brentford, revealing his desire to fight for respect in the game.

“I stayed for five seasons in Brentford, in a team that knows how to help me grow and take a step forward. But yes, I want to play in big competitions, in the best teams,” he said.

“It’s still interesting to see big teams interested in me. We’ll see.”

Mbeumo’s contract will run until 2026 and Brentford were able to choose another 12 months in the deal.

Since joining the Bees in 2019, Mbeumo has registered 50 goals and 42 assists in 200 games, establishing himself as one of the best players in the Premier League outside of the ‘big six’.

When asked where he can still improve, Mbeumo replied: “In interviews, person to person. I have qualities that I have not yet fully used. In the final act as well, I have to be more killer, more decisive.

“I also know how important side work is. I have set up programs with a sports coach. I am following a virtual reality program that allows me to improve my cognitive skills. You should be ready for the coming seasons.”
