Liverpool confirm £10m move for young midfielder

Liverpool have confirmed the departure of 19-year-old midfielder Bobby Clark, who has joined Red Bull Salzburg on a full-time basis. to transfer.

Clark joined Newcastle United’s academy in 2021 and ended up making 14 first-team appearances, including coming off the bench in last season’s famous Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea.

Now he has decided to leave and has signed up for the Austrian team, Salzburg, managed by Pep Lijnders who was Jurgen Klopp’s assistant.

“After 3 amazing years at Liverpool, I’ve decided it’s time for a new challenge,” he wrote on social media. “I’ve learned a lot during my time at the club and I’m very grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had. I’m grateful to all the fans who have supported me on this journey.”

Paul Joyce confirming the deal would be worth £10m for Liverpool, who also retained a 17.5% sell-on clause and the right to match any future bid for the midfielder.

Reflecting on his move to Salzburg, Clark told the club’s media: “I’m very happy with this career step and I can’t wait to be on the pitch with my new teammates. For me, this is the perfect step for the perfect club.

“At Liverpool, I saw what players developed here in Salzburg, like Sadio Mane and Dominik Szoboszlai, who were a big inspiration for me. And you know what opportunities the young players have here. Pep Lijnders, who I know at Liverpool and who he is the coach here, he also influenced my decision.”

Liverpool’s determination to acquire a wealth of young talent has drawn some frustration from fans this summer, with Clark following Fabio Carvalho out the door and Sepp van den Berg also closing in on a £30m move from Anfield.
