Liverpool’s Dutch star makes a decision on the appointment of Arne Slot

Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo believes Arne Slot’s footballing philosophy will make him a staunch supporter of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Slot officially began his tenure as Liverpool manager on Saturday but has big shoes to fill as he replaces Klopp, who won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup during his nine years in charge.
However, Slot arrives on Merseyside with plenty of pedigree himself having led Dutch giants Feyenoord to the 2022/23 Eredivisie title and this season’s KNVB Cup, while they also reached the 2021/22 UEFA Europa Conference League final, losing 1- 0 in Rom.
Slot is known at Feyenoord for playing powerful, attacking football not unlike the one Klopp is associated with and his compatriot Gakpo believes he could be a good fit for the Reds.
“I think so, otherwise the team would not have chosen him,” Gakpo told De Telegraaf (via the Independent).
“When you talk about clean football and high pressure, and this incident is a big factor for us under Jurgen Klopp, that is also something we are very used to.”
Gakpo to flourish under the Slot?
The arrival of the Dutch boss could be just what Gakpo needs to really revive his Liverpool career.
Arriving at PSV in January 2023, Gakpo’s time at Anfield can be described as solid so far, scoring 23 goals and nine assists in 79 appearances across all competitions.
However, only 23 of those direct goals (15g/8a) have come in Premier League action, with Gakpo finding more joy in the Europa League and EFL Cup, where he has scored eight goals in 14 games combined.
Whether or not Slot will favor his compatriot as Liverpool’s No.9 option over the likes of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota remains to be seen.
“I have never spoken to him before… (but) I know he always made it difficult for us at PSV and he is known as a good coach,” Gakpo said about his Slot experience as a coach. .
