Tim Bradley says Vasily Lomachenko is the “toughest” fight Gervonta Davis has fought. This is a fight that Bradley says Tank will need a knockout to win because he can’t knock out Lomachenko to win a decision. Either he takes Loma out or he loses the decision.
Tank’s Knockout Imperative
Tank lags behind in his fights, and you can’t do that to Lomachenko because he fights well when he’s always in the lead and he’s able to hold on to it without getting caught by home run punches.
Bradley feels that Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) brings something that Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) has not seen before during his long career when they fight in November together.
WBA lightweight champion Davis has the potential to win if he can connect, but Bradley isn’t sure if he can succeed.
“I don’t think Loma is more than a mountain. Tank will have to take him out. He has to knock him out because Loma can get ahead of the cards,” said analyst Tim Bradley on Fight Hub TV about Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis needing a knockout to defeat Vasily Lomachenko in November.
Lomachenko was undefeated in his last two fights against George Kambosos Jr. and Devin Haney. Loma stopped Kambosos Jr. and was on a controversial decision against Haney in a fight that many felt he won. I beat Lomachenko 8-4 over Haney.
“It would be funny to see Tank’s game plan and what he’s going to do. If Tank comes forward, fires combinations, gets behind that jab, he can control Loma. “But if he stays bent and tries to use that high guard and there’s nothing in between, Loma will be able to take him back,” Bradley continued.
If Tank Davis comes forward, applies pressure, it’s no different than if he’s running back. The three fighters that Lomachenko had issues with, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez and Orlando Salido, had the ability to get to Loma. The tank moves like Guillermo Rigondeaux, who was flat-footed and helpless.
“Loma does not run. You will stay in the area. He will stay close. He will be gone. Outside, in, out of reach, and you will play with distance.
We’re going to see a move from Loma because he does that in every fight, and that’s how he beat George Kambosos Jr. last May. In that fight, Lomachenko would come in, take a shot, and get out of a series of Kambosos swings. He will do the same with Tank Davis because he is predictable.
Loma’s Unique Skillset
“I think Loma brings something that Tank has never seen. Loma will be the toughest fighter Tank has ever fought. He is mentally capable, experienced, or old. Every famous fighter has one good fight in him. They are waiting for an opportunity to show it,” said Bradley.
Lomachenko is far better in the world than the fighters who fought Tank, who were old, washed-up and B-level sluggers like Ryan Garcia, Frank Martin, Isaac Cruz and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero. Tank hasn’t fought any pure boxers before, and that’s not by accident. His managers didn’t want him out of the box.
“I think Tank is the right man for her. Loma knows she has to go down to the sea. Dry up, you’ll have to go down to the bottom of the sea. The deepest part of the ocean [to beat Tank]. Come back and do the same if you’re going to hit Tank because Tank is small and strong,” said Bradley.
Lomachenko can get inspiration from anyone, but a fight with Tank Davis is as good as it gets. This is the guy Loma has wanted to fight for seven years, and he finally gets the chance to do it.
The fact that Tank Davis’ management waited until Lomachenko was 36 years old is a sign of respect because it shows that they didn’t think he could win until now. They didn’t trust Tank so they didn’t fight.
