Man United and Liverpool target Ousmane Diomande who is available for £35 million

Manchester United are keen to sign Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old defender has caught the attention of Premier League clubs with his performances and Manchester United have already met with the player’s representatives over a summer move.

The defender has a £68 million release clause in his contract, but Sporting CP are willing to let him leave for around £35 million according to the Express. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United decide to pursue their interest with a formal offer in the coming weeks.

It’s no secret that they will need to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer. Raphael Varane has decided to leave the team and will have to be replaced in the right way. Diomande could be a quality long-term investment for the Red Devils.

Liverpool want Ousmane Diomande

However, it is not the only team in England who are willing to sign him, and they will compete with Liverpool and Newcastle United.

The Reds need to bring in defensive reinforcements as well, especially with Joel Matip now a free agent. It remains to be seen which of the two English teams managed to win the Diomande race.

A reported £35 million asking price seems reasonable for a player of his quality and potential. He could develop into a top quality Premier League defender and justify the investment in the near future.

Both teams will have to strengthen at the back if they want to fight for big trophies next year. They have looked vulnerable defensively in recent months.

The prospect of joining Manchester United or Liverpool would be very attractive to the young defender and the 20-year-old will be hoping to join a big club this summer.
