Man Utd have ‘heard’ a new management intention to replace Erik ten Hag
Manchester United have identified Roberto De Zerbi as a possible replacement for Erik ten Hag, according to a new report.
De Zerbi joined Brighton & Hove Albion in September 2022 and led the club to a top-flight finish in 2022/23. He also helped them reach the last 16 of the Europa League in the following campaign – their first ever trip to Europe – before leaving at the end of this season.
The guard they revealed that United were in contact with De Zerbi, and the possibility of Erik ten Hag being sacked is increasing despite winning the FA Cup at the weekend.
De Zerbi’s surprise departure from Brighton was by agreement at the end of the season, saying he wanted to ‘take a break before deciding on future plans’.
He currently has only one managerial trophy to his name – the Ukrainian Super Cup he won with Shakhtar Donetsk, which he managed in just 30 games.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag managed to secure his second piece of United silverware on Saturday, after beating rivals Manchester City to lift the FA Cup. De Zerbi is yet to win any trophies in England, and the Dutchman remains proud of his skills in this area after Saturday’s victory.
Speaking after the victory, Ten Hag said: “Two trophies in two years is not bad. [somewhere else] winning trophies because that’s what I do all my career.”
Ten Hag’s position is expected to be reviewed this week during the club’s season review, and only then will a decision be made on his future.
