Man Utd made a decision to keep Bruno Fernandes in the Crystal Palace game

Bruno Fernandes will miss Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Monday night due to injury.

The United captain was declared a doubt for the game by manager Erik ten Hag last week due to a wrist problem, having recently played with a bandage protecting the affected area.

The Portuguese has missed just one league game all season – which came against Liverpool in December due to suspension – but United will have to do without their top scorer and assistant in the division until 2023/24.

Unsurprisingly, it is the first club game that Fernandes has missed through injury in his senior career.

Fernandes is far from the only United player to be ruled out on Monday due to injury. Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, Willy Kambwala, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s absence leaves the defense in ruins, while there were also fears over Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay are in good shape.

Neither Rashford nor McTominay made the squad, although Jonny Evans was transferred fit to partner Casemiro in defence. Christian Eriksen plays alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the center of the park, while Mason Mount will replace Fernandes in the No.10 role.

There are few experienced players on the bench. Reserve goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, Sofyan Amrabat and Amad Diallo are notable names, with youngsters Ethan Wheatley, Habeeb Ogunneye, Harry Amass, Louis Jackson and Toby Collyer hopefuls. of doing more than just adding numbers.

Ten Hag will be hoping that his side can keep their roster of most players in one team for Monday evening’s game against Palace. Victory would move United back above Newcastle and Chelsea into sixth place, just three points behind fifth-placed Tottenham.

However, they have been plagued by a lack of ruthlessness and sloppy defending in recent weeks, drawing three of their last four league games.
