Match Report – AUS vs NAM Warm Up, May 28, 2024
Australia 123 in 3 (Warner 54*) bat in Namibia 119 for 9 (Green 38, Zampa, 3-25, Hazlewood 2-5) for seven wickets
Australia are currently without six of their 15-man squad – Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis – following the IPL.
While Australia were short, they opted to have two warm-up games as most of the players were coming off the off-season and some had a short game in India.
One of those was at home to Hazlewood and he set a dominant tone with a stunning opening spell of 3-3-0-2. His second wicket of Nikolaas Davin came off a cut by Borovec.
Ashton Agar, who was called up for the tournament, opened the attack with Hazlewood and ended up being too expensive for the special bowlers. Considering the lack of available players, and captain Mitchell Marsh not yet ready to bowl, Tim David’s part time was used to get four complete overs which helped Namibia reach 119.
Adam Zampa bowled out the middle order and Nathan Ellis, who made just one appearance for Punjab Kings in the IPL, was 1 for 17 in his four overs.
Australia raced into the chase with Warner and Marsh quickly out of the blocks in the powerplay before the captain was dismissed in the mix.
Warner, who will retire from international cricket after the tournament, brought up his fifty with a six in the third innings against Tangeni Lungameni.
Josh Inglis missed at number 3 when he bowled to Bernard Scholtz, who again dismissed David.
Australia play their second warm-up match against the hosts West Indies on Thursday.
