Molinari remains at the top of the class at the Worth School – Golf News
Edoardo Molinari is still out of the chasing pack after three rounds of the Final Stage Qualifying School at INFINITUM in Spain.
The 43-year-old Italian, who started the day five strokes clear, carded a level-par 72 on the Hills Course to stay at 17 under par and reach the midway point of the six-round race four shots ahead of the chase. pack, led by Frenchman Clément Sordet.
Molinari, following rounds of 65, 61 and 72, is well placed to regain his DP World Tour eligibility for the first time, and is pleased with how he handled the testing conditions on day three in Tarragona.
“I didn’t start this well, but it was difficult because of the wind blowing in the trees,” he said. “I saw that it is very complicated today. It was very swinging.
“Of course I didn’t play as well as two days ago, but after ten games yesterday it’s always difficult to follow another, so I’m happy with what I did.”
The three-time DP World Tour winner successfully graduated from Q School in 2015 and again in 2016, and admits that experience, along with patience, was the key to staying out there.
“Patience was very important,” he added. “I had a big lead and sometimes it’s tricky to play with a big lead, but I just tried to play my game, make the right decisions and I felt like for the most part, I did that.”
England’s Matthew Southgate was five shots off the lead for third place at 12 under par, with four players one shot back at the fourth.
