Montreal Canadiens Announce Patrik Laine Out 2-3 Months With Knee Injury – Hockey Writers – Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens announced Tuesday (October 1) that forward Patrik Laine will miss 2-3 months with a left knee injury, but will not require surgery. Laine had a nasty collision against the Toronto Maple Leafs in a preseason game with Cedric Pare and it appeared that Laine’s leg was bent the wrong way, and he sat down in obvious discomfort. The news that he won’t be out as long as expected and that he won’t need surgery is good.

Laine was traded to the Canadiens this offseason when the Columbus Blue Jackets traded him for a second-round draft pick in exchange for Jordan Harris. Laine spent some time in the NHL/NHLPA Assistance Program last season to deal with some personal issues, so it’s good to see him get a fresh start with a new team.
Laine is one of two Canadian players with knee injuries during the preseason, with David Reinbacher expected to be out for 5-6 months with a knee injury, and was expected to break their opening night routine and make his own. The NHL starts this season.
The Canadiens could bring Laine back during the Christmas break if all goes well with his recovery. He is looking to bounce back and re-establish himself as a top producer, as he hasn’t played a full season since the Covid-shortened 2021-22 season where he averaged a point per game. Last season, he played only 18 games with the Blue Jackets, scoring six goals and adding three assists for nine points.
