Marco D’Amico of RG.org: D’Amico writes that the Montreal Canadiens are looking to improve their defense. Montreal GM Kent Hughes knows how to maximize his assets and cap space. Throughout the summer, the Canadiens needed an upgrade at the forward position and they got it with Patrik Laine.

Now, as they take the next step in the rebuild, the Canadiens have four picks in the first two rounds of the 2025 NHL Draft and a few prospects in the process. Therefore, they have the property to make the deal work.
However, it is about time and price. Also, look at Laine’s deal. It was the right time and package to find him. They want to do the same to improve their defense.
There is nothing on Trade Front at this time
Once again, the expectation is for the Canadiens to come together and play meaningful games this season. However, they will need to upgrade to replace David Savard, who is a UFA in the summer of 2025, to take the next step.

Like their defense, the Canadiens have young players entering the conversation on offense: Alex Barre-Boulet, Emil Heineman, Joshua Roy, and Oliver Kapanen. If the Canadines want to move forward to clear a roster spot, the likes of Christian Dvorak, Josh Anderson, and Joel Armia could be there.
All three men are entering the final years of their contracts. If the Canadiens are out of contention for the playoffs come the trade deadline for these potential departures. All three were rumored to be for sale for a long time.
