Mourinho accuses Osimhen of ‘diving too much’

Jose Mourinho has accused new Galatasaray signing Victor Osimhen of “diving too much” but admitted he is “a very good player”.

The Nigerian striker looked set to leave Napoli for Chelsea this summer, but could not agree terms with the Blues.

But after the European transfer window closed, the 25-year-old agreed a loan deal with the Turkish Super Lig, with clauses that would allow him to leave in January if a bigger club wanted him.

Osimhen has made it clear that he wants to leave the Serie A side this summer and as a result has been dropped from the squad by new coach Antonio Conte.

Al-Ahli also tried their luck to bring him to the Saudi Pro League but saw their request rejected by the striker.

But with the trip to Turkey finalized, he will look to another meeting with Mourinho, who is in charge of Galatasaray’s rivals, Fenerbahce.

Exclusive was asked about Osihmen’s move and had both positive and negative things to say about him.

Speaking to HT Spor, Mourinho said: “’Osimhen is a great player.

“He is a player that if I was in a club with the ability to pay 70 to 75 million, I would buy him. He is an amazing player.

“Yes, you come in different situations but in the end situations don’t mean anything.

“The important thing is that Galatasaray got an excellent player.

“I have no problem with Victor. In fact, we have a very good relationship.

“But every time I play with him I talk to him because I don’t like the way he behaves, he dives a lot.

“The last time we played, Roma against Napoli, we had this conversation.

“I told him, “Look, you are one of the two best players in Africa – it’s you [Mohamed] Salah. In the past Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, George Weah, you cannot behave like this.

“He dives too much, that’s my problem with him. But after ten minutes, we are ready. We have a very good relationship.

“In the Turkish league it’s fun and in Galatasaray it’s admirable.”
