Mudryk is about to spark another fire auction
The analogy of a kid in a sweet shop being able to buy anything he wants is a perfect illustration of how Chelsea continue to run their transfer business.
Since the club was taken over by Clearlake Capital, there have been constant and significant changes to the first team players.
Whether that’s because those players aren’t good enough or there are financial incentives to push them forward is a moot point.
Chelsea will let the £88.5m flop go in January
The ins and outs are endless, and look set to continue in the upcoming January window.
According to TeamTalk, £88.5m signing Mykhailo Mudryk is set to spark another auction fire when the window opens for business again in the new year.
With at least 29 players in their first team per transfermarkt, the Blues remain one of the top-heavy teams in the Premier League.
Perhaps this January could be the last time we see more exits and the squad could be whittled down to a more acceptable 24 or 25 players.
That would at least give Enzo Maresca a better stat count and prevent players like Mudryk from wasting away on the sidelines.
TeamTalk notes, in fact, the Ukrainian can’t wait to leave the club after being discriminated against by the new manager, and the last thing Maresca needs at this early stage of the season is players showing frustration in the dressing room.
Basically, all that fire sales really achieve is economic equity.
Maresca, like Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino before him, cannot rely on any kind of continuity in the team, and that lack of stability could be seen in results during the season.
