Mumbai’s Musheer Khan has pulled out of the Irani Cup after a road accident in UP
ESPNcricinfo has learned that Musheer was traveling with his father and two others when their SUV, a Toyota Fortuner, collided with a median and fell, according to eyewitnesses and a member of the Lucknow police traffic unit. Musheer was taken to the hospital and treated for a seizure, but the extent of the damage is not yet known.
It is understood that Musheer will be flown back to Mumbai early, where he will check in at a BCCI-approved hospital for further tests. The medical team of BCCI and NCA were immediately informed about his case.
Musheer was to represent Mumbai, who are the Ranji Trophy champions, in the first division match to be played at the Ekana Stadium. After the Iran match, Mumbai will start their Ranji campaign on October 11 against Baroda.
The injury comes as a setback for Musheer following his debut in the first ball. He has three and a half centuries in nine first-class matches. These include a double century in last season’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal, a century in the semi-final and a match-winning century in the final against Vidarbha.
Meanwhile, Musheer’s elder brother and India batsman Sarfaraz Khan has been released from the Test squad in Kanpur to take part in the Irani Cup. Sarfaraz’s availability was contingent on him not being selected in India’s playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is yet to name Musheer’s replacement in the Ajinkya Rahane-led team.
