NBA Guard Cameron Payne Arrested for Making a False Report to Police

NBA free agent Cameron Payne was arrested Friday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona, for allegedly giving a false report to police and refusing to give his name. TMZ Games he says.

“According to the Scottsdale Police Department, authorities were called to investigate a disturbance in Scottsdale around 2:44 AM – and they made contact with Payne and another person,” TMZ said.

“It’s unclear what happened next – police have not released any other details – although SPD says Payne was arrested at the scene and charged with one count of refusing to give a true name and one count of falsely reporting to law enforcement.

“We were told that the 29-year-old NBA player was released from custody a short time later.”

Payne has ties to Arizona, as he played for the Suns from 2019-23.

This offseason in February, Milwaukee traded Payne to Philadelphia for Patrick Beverley’s second-round pick.

He played 31 regular season games with the Sixers, where he averaged 9.3 points and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 38 percent from three-point range.

Philly played in the first round of the playoffs and Payne appeared in five of those games, averaging 5.3 points and shooting 44 percent from three.

The guard is expected to become a free agent this summer, although it has been reported that the 76ers may be interested in re-signing him as Tyrese Maxey’s backup point guard.

Throughout his nine-year NBA career, the journeyman played for the Thunder, Bulls, Cavaliers, Bucks and 76ers.
