NBA insider Bill Simmons believes New York had ‘concerns’ about how Julius Randle would fit into the team, which is why the franchise chose to use him as a trade piece in the deal to acquire Wolves great Karl-Anthony Towns.
“I feel like there was a real chemistry concern with Randle,” Simmons said of the trade in his program. “Getting him under — kind of the bad stepchild of this Villanova 4 team. He’s there, and he’s getting paid a little bit because he’s a top 50 man. He’s got to play out of position. [Jalen] Brunson will always have the ball. And they must not have liked anything.”
The 29-year-old Randle will look to bring experience to the Timberwolves, joining veterans such as Joe Ingles and Mike Conley in the team’s running back.
For the Knicks the trade could be beneficial, as they will now have more to compete with the likes of Joel Embiid and Kristaps Porzingis in the Eastern Conference.
But for KAT, the center position appears to be only on loan until the return of the injured Mitchell Robinson.
For the Wolves, Towns played a major role in the team’s success last season, along with Anthony Edwards.
But, Minnesota got sharpshooter Donte DiVincenzo in the trade.
He finished last season with 283 three-pointers and joined Steph Curry, James Harden, Klay Thompson, Paul George, Buddy Hield and Luka Doncic as the only players to make 280+ three-pointers in a season, thus putting him down with Edwards. it could be a fatal combination of points.
