Newcastle are ‘making a third transfer bid of around £60m’ for Palace

Newcastle have made a third bid of up to £60m for Marc Guehi who are at least £10m short of Crystal Palace’s valuation of the defender, according to a report.

The Magpies have offered £55m plus £5m in potential add-ons for the England international, say BBC Sport, adding that Palace value Guehi at £70m.

Palace reportedly rejected a second bid last week worth £50m for the Chelsea academy product, who became England’s first-choice partner John Stones in central defense as they look to reach the Uefa Euro 2024 finals.

Guehi transmission, statistics

Guehi has two years left on the five-year contract he signed when he joined Palace from the Blues for a fee rising to £20m in 2021.

Born in the Ivorian capital Abidjan, Guehi moved to England at the age of one and began his youth career with Bromley-based Cray Wanderers.

A star of Chelsea’s trophy-winning Under-18 side, Guehi was captain when England reached the Euro Under-17 final in 2017 and scored in the final as they won the Under-17 World Cup shortly afterwards.

He spent a season and a half on loan at Swansea City from January 2020, helping the Championship club to the semi-finals in his first and last campaign in his second.

In 111 games for Palace, Guehi has scored five goals and became the regular captain, helping Palace to a defensive record bettered by only four top-flight teams in 2023-24.

In the absence of Harry Maguire at Euro 2024, Guehi has established himself as a key player for England more than 15 months after making his debut.

Palace rejected Fulham Andersen’s request

The outlet also reported that Palace rejected a £20m bid from Fulham for one of Guehi’s partners at club level, Joachim Andersen.

The Danish defender, who spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Craven Cottage from Lyon, is said to be worth close to £40m.

In their first full season under Austrian manager Oliver Glasner, Palace begin their Premier League campaign at Brentford on Sunday (2pm BST).
