NHL news: Stanley Cup weekend

Stanley Cup Weekend

NHL.com: Florida Panthers players continue their Stanley Cup rotation as summer winds down.

Former Florida Panther Ryan Lomberg took the Stanley Cup into the sunset Friday evening. Now the Calgary Flame (once a member of the Flames) will take the experience of winning the Stanley Cup with him.

Again, this is a bit of a contrast to a player like Dmitry Kulikov who took the Stanley Cup to a place Florida fans know so well. Kulikov took the silver trophy to the Baptist Health IcePlex in Fort Lauderdale.

There is nothing like inspiring future hockey players than the game’s most popular trophy.

It will be interesting to see where the Stanley Cup ends up next as August winds down and September approaches.

NHL Rumors: What Does Edmonton Do Next After Offer Sheets?

Cuba Shines and Wins the Amerigoal LATAM Cup

William Douglas: Cuba and its players will never think that such success is easy. However, the team beat Greece on Sunday 4-3 to win the Amerigoal LATAM Cup. For many of these players, the NHL is a dream come true.

Tyler Terranova made 33 saves in the win as Cuba celebrated its first title in its first appearance in the tournament. Coach Earle Barrington believes this is the tipping point. There may be many teams including the women’s team that will compete next year.

This year’s LATAM Cup brought together 52 teams and over 1,100 players. The growth since 2016 has been phenomenal. Now, there was no women’s tournament and now there are eight teams in total. The Caribbean team won again last year defeating Argentina.

Who is the next Al Montoya? Well, one does not know.

Questions About Logan Couture Are Rising Again

Mercury news: Questions will not go away when it comes to Logan Couture. Will he show up for training camp or not? The groin injury that Couture is suffering from (osteitis pubis) could be the inflammation that has kept Couture from seeing the ice.

NHL rumors: San Jose Sharks and more

Once again, Couture came closest to the Stanley Cup in a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016. As San Jose is in the process of rebuilding, they look to Couture for leadership, stability, and direction.

It will be interesting to see that the next time the Captain takes the ice and does not end up working out in the gym. I hope it happens sooner rather than later.
