NHL Rumors: 2025 NHL Draft, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Timothy Liljegren

The NHL is targeting LA theater for the 2025 NHL draft

TSN: Chris Johnston notes that the NHL is considering the 7,000-seat Peacock Theater in Los Angeles as a possible site for the 2025 NHL draft. It has hosted the Grammy’s and ESPY’s before. Since they distribute the draft, they no longer have to use large arenas/venues.

Timothy Liljegren returns to the lineup

TSN: Darren Dreger notes that Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren should return to the Leafs’ roster in the third round. Will this fuel the trade speculation or will it slow it down a bit?

“The Maple Leafs like to have depth at that position. Connor Timmins had a really good training camp, had a decent preseason. He caught the eye of coach Craig Berube and the coaching staff, so they wanted to look at him.

NHL Injuries: Blue Jackets. Stars, Panthers, Sens, Sharks, Kraken, Leafs, Utah, Capitals, and Jets

But it’s also important to get Liljegren on his game at the NHL level and prove to everyone, including the Leafs organization, that they believe the depth matters.”

Four possible locations for Timothy Liljegren

Adam Proteau of Hockey News: Timothy Liljegren carries a cap hit of $3 million. Four teams may be interested in the 25-year-old right-handed defenseman.

Anaheim Ducks – Tons of salary cap space and could move into their third pairing. Brian Dumoulin was playing on his off side with Pavel Mintyukov in the second team. Cam Fowler could be dealt this season and Liljegren could add depth. The Ducks can browse Liljegren if it doesn’t work out.

San Jose Sharks – Have about $7.5 million in cap space and all of their right defensemen are 30 years old or older.

NHL Rumors: Dallas Stars, Ken Holland, Joel Quenneville, and Detroit Red Wings

St. Louis Blues – They are over $5 million in cap space and could be the third pairing defense for a team that would like to make the playoffs. There may be a long-term equilibrium.

Philadelphia Flyers – If the Flyers can move Rasmus Ristolainen and the 5.1 million cap hit, there may be room for Liljegren.
