NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins, and Winnipeg Jets
Time is ticking early in the season for the Bruins and Swayman
TSN: We still have time for the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman to fix this after they let things cool down a bit according to Chris Johnston. If Swayman is not signed on the first day of the season, he actually loses a large amount of daily salary and his cap number is difficult for the Bruins.
“Consider this: If Jeremy Swayman is not signed on opening night, every night of last season, he loses a salary – something like $40,000 a day. If he’s not wearing a Bruins uniform. If the Bruins don’t sign him on opening night, they will have a very difficult time getting him under their cap if they do sign him.”
NHL Rumors: Doesn’t Sound Like Bruins Plan to Trade Jeremy Swayman
Darren Dreger added that the Bruins want to make a deal and talks will continue as the rumors turn.
“They wanted to proceed as quietly as possible, and they understand that social media – the rumor mill – is churning out all kinds of different situations, including trade opportunities. But look, we need to remind everyone out there that you’re a restricted free agent. The Boston Bruins have their rights, so none of this which is happening anytime soon. They are committed to fixing it for a long time.”
TSN: So the Boston Bruins are approaching $64 million for Swayman, and with the start of the season around the corner, how much will that play into his thinking? Johnston says:
“But it sounds like these are conversations that could go on for a long time, and especially once you get into the year, the Bruins really have to go on, as a team, without Swayman and try to get through that. It’s a long time before he’s finally signed.”

There’s no need to panic just yet with the Winnipeg Jets blue line
Ken Wiebe and Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press: (mailbag) It’s not time to panic just yet for the Winnipeg Jets blue line after it was announced that they will be without Ville Heinola and Logan Stanley for a while. Haydn Fleury and Dylan Coghlan were brought in for depth this offseason.
Justin Schultz is unsigned. He brings offense but doesn’t excel defensively or physically. The Jets injury is also a lefty, and Schultz plays righty.
