NHL Rumors: Colorado Avalanche, and Toronto Maple Leafs

Possible trade options for the Colorado Avalanche

Adam Proteau of Hockey News: The Colorado Avalanche have more than $7 million in limited salary cap space to work with if they don’t concede. They could look to add a forward or two.

Three possible options

Brock Nelson – New York Islanders – The 33-year-old is a pending UFA with a cap hit of $6 million.

Nick Robertson – Toronto Maple Leafs – He’s been healthy at times this season and carries a cap hit of just $875,000. The Avs could offer draft picks and/or prospects.

Michael Carcone – Utah Hockey Club – The 28-year-old is coming off a 21-goal season last year but has seen limited action this year. Pending UFA with $775,000 cap hit.

The Avs may also be in the market for a third-party defense.

It might be time for the Toronto Maple Leafs to move on from Nick Robertson, it might be a few more.

Adam Porteau of Hockey News: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson scored five goals in the preseason, but is scoreless in the regular season.

He asked for a trade in the offseason, and has been healthy at times so far. Forwards Calle Jarnkrok and Connor Dewar are getting close to returning to the lineup, so Robertson’s days may be numbered.

It doesn’t seem like a good fit for Toronto, and if they can get a few mid-round draft picks and/or a good prospect, they should move on from him.

The Maple Leafs have about $3 million in cap space and will need $3.28 million when Jarnkrok and Dewar are ready to be activated on LTIR. Robertson carries an $875,000 cap hit.

The Colorado Avalanche or the New York Islanders could be two teams that could be interested in Robertson.

The fourth season: The Toronto Maple Leafs will need to create some salary cap space and defensemen Jani Hakanpaa and Connor Dewar are ready to return to the roster.

Defensemen Conor Timmins and Matt Benning could be traded or sidelined to be sent to the AHL.

Forward Calle Jarnkrok is on LTIR with trade interest, and Nick Robertson is another trade candidate if GM Brad Treliving gets his price.
