I think they should part with their core group of players. I think that probably starts with Mitch Marner. Marner has only one year left on his contract. He has a full no-movement clause but it’s not like teams can’t find ways to get a guy a nice change of scenery. Or maybe he made his life a little hell about the ice age and stuff like that if he didn’t agree with the trade job.
It is clear that, that this group, it does not mean how it was formed, it is the core of the group that matters. Looking at Boston. You look at their players, impact players – (Brad) Marchand, (Charlie) McAvoy, (David) Pasternak. This is a different type of player than Mahlamvu.
And maybe it’s time to stop hoping that that 26- or 27-year-old guy is going to turn into a good playoff player and start trading some of these guys who are good playoff players.

Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: If the Toronto Maple Leafs lose, Brendan Shanahan could/should be in trouble. Head coach Sheldon Keefe is in trouble.
The Maple Leafs have recently had a problem with overplaying the kids and creating an environment with no accountability.
In the last eight years under Shanahan, the Leafs have the third best record in the regular season behind the Bruins and the Lightning. They are fifteenth in tournament wins. There have been four GMs under Shanahan.
