Igor Shesterkin and the Rangers will continue to talk after the offer was denied
TSN: Pierre LeBrun asked about New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin, and Kevin Weekes’ report on Shesterkin turning down an eight-year, $88 million offer.

LeBrun said he couldn’t confirm the exact number, but it would make him the highest-paid goaltender in the league.
“You know, it’s important to be careful for a few reasons. Number one, as we talked about a few weeks ago, there’s this unofficial deadline, you know, Shesterkin might not want to negotiate during the season. So, there’s pressure here to try and get it done before the Rangers start the season on Thursday night.”
Negotiations will continue between the parties and there will be back and forth. Thursday is not a hard deadline. When and wherever Shesterkin signs, he’ll be the top earner at more than $11 million per season.
Jake Oettinger is probably in no rush to sign a contract extension
TSN: Pierre LeBrun was asked about the negative impact of Jeremy Swayman’s eight-year, $66 million contract, and what it could mean for someone like Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger.
The 25-year-old Oettinger is a pending RFA after the season. Contract negotiations are not yet firm and the parties may be waiting to see how the season plays out first.
“I think Jim Nill, the Stars GM, will want to talk about this at some point during the season. But, my guess is, Jake Oettinger’s camp, led by agent Ben Hankinson, is probably not in the big chase. I mean, Jake Oettinger has a chance to put together a great year here, give himself a big boost in the negotiations. He’s got Swayman’s contract in his back pocket right now, so maybe this happens after the season.”
