NHL Rumors: New York Islanders, and Other CBA Topics for GMs

The New York Islanders defensemen might consider it

Stephen Rosner of Hockey News: The left side of the New York Islanders blue line has been depleted by injuries to Adam Pelech and Mike Reilly. Mathew Barzal ($9.5 million) and Anthony Duclair ($3.5 million) are on LTIR, so they have money to work with for now.

“I think he does. But obviously, when you have a few players go down the way they did, you pay attention to what can and can’t be done,” Lamoriello said.

NHL Rumors: Is There a Chance of More Trades Ahead

A potential target

Erik Gustafsson – Detroit Red Wings – He’s been healthy four times this season and has $2 million.

Erik Brannstrom – Vancouver Canucks – The Islanders had a look at him when he was with the Senators. On a one-year contract at $900,000.

Brendan Smith – Dallas Stars – He has only played five games this season and is on a one-year contract worth $1 million.

The Islanders don’t have much potential but the players above should only cost a mid or late pick.

Other CBA topics GMs may be talking about soon

TSN: CBA negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA are expected to continue into the new year. The GMs will meet soon and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly will present the GM with a summary of their feedback over the past few months.

NHL Rumors: What Is Kirill Kaprizov’s Future in Minnesota?

“Some of this looks like a fix, like maybe fixing the wage settlement, travel rights and wage reconciliation. Reviewing the offer sheet’s compensation chart, but the one that really caught my eye, is one of the GMs recommending revisiting time limits on contracts. You may remember that this is the cliff that the league was willing to die on in 2012 when it wanted to limit contracts to less than eight years. They ended up being eight years with PA. I will say this, and I think Dregs and CJ agree, I don’t feel right now that either side, PA or league, wants to have a big fight in this round of CBA negotiations. I think they want this to be a good negotiation.”
