EJ Hradek: “Elliott, I want to take you to our place here, the New York Rangers. There’s been a lot of talk about, you know, Shesterkin. He is in the final year of his contract. You know…”

Friedman: “Who are you? I hadn’t heard anything yet.”

Hradek: “Yeah, you know, we had it, I had my boy, Kevin Weekes here that he was talking about, like, you know, he turned down the deal. I know you were trying to follow this too. I mean, it’s an interesting story for sure.

What will you get? And, about (Alexis) Lafreniere, what’s the situation there? Give us, what do you know about what’s going on with the Rangers right now, with those two players in terms of extensions?

Friedman: “I think this, I think when it comes to Shesterkin, I just think, the Rangers should be free where they want to go. I think you want to live in New York. I think you want to be a Ranger. But I think there is a way that he and his representatives look at this situation. That is, he is the best Guardian, and he should be paid as such.

And you know, EJ, I was there, I mentioned our pod this week, that what the other guy said to me is, what he would do is, if it was the Rangers, he would give them one dollar more than (Artemi) Panarin and see if that works. And I don’t know if that happened, but I thought it was an interesting idea.

I think the Rangers will eventually have to bow out on this one. You know, the other thing is that it came out early last week, and Kevin had a great experience. It caused some hard feelings, I guess. About how that came out. I think, like, there were people who felt that Shesterkin was there, that is, it was made to look bad. They didn’t like that.

And so I think everyone here has gone back down and tried to catch their breath a little bit. But I still believe that in the end he will be a striker who has been around for a long time, and the Rangers will have to bend and get closer to where he wants to go.”
