NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators Hit the Goaltending Market

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: League sources said the Ottawa Senators are working hard to land a forward. GM Steve Staios spoke with the Boston Bruins about Linus Ullmark.

The official said they are one of the most aggressive teams behind the Calgary Flames’ Jacob Markstrom. Another official said they may have kicked the tires of Nashville Predators Juuse Saros.

The New Jersey Devils may be willing to offer the No. 10 pick in the draft and could be Markstrom’s first baseman. The Sens talked to the Flames to see what a deal could be.

NHL rumors: San Jose Sharks, and Ottawa Senators

A league official believes the Flames will ask the Senators for a first-round pick and a prospect. The Sens have the No. 1 pick. 7 and 25 in the draft but very little in terms of prospects.

Markstrom would want to waive a contending team. Do you think the Senators are a competitive team?

The Senators attempted to trade Ullmark to the Bruins before the trade deadline and offered Joonas Korpisalo in the deal. Korpisalo has four years left at $4 million each and that didn’t interest the Bruins.

It could take Jakob Chychrun, the first, and another pick to get to Ullmark according to a league source.

Shawn Simpson: “There’s no way I’m trading the 7th pick for Saros, Ullmark, or Markstrom. But I could see the Devils using the 10th pick. They have a really good team with only the goalkeeper left. There is also a lot of pressure to take the next step.”
