NHL Rumors: Rangers, Oilers, Bruins – Hockey Writers – NHL Rumors

In today’s NHL rumors, the New York Rangers have been given a deadline to negotiate with goaltender Igor Shesterkin. What does this mean? Also, are the Rangers worried? Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers released a statement on Evander Kane’s recovery timeline. The hint here seems to be that he is out of season. Finally, the Spittin’ Chiclets cast responds to Don Sweeney calling them out on the Jeremy Swayman interviews and saying they know the Bruins lowballed Swayman. They also get into what happens when the Bruins struggle to start the season without their starter.

Shesterkin Tells Rangers They Won’t Talk When Season Begins

The New York Rangers received some potentially bad news regarding goaltender Igor Shesterkin. While negotiations are still ongoing, it has been confirmed that he will not negotiate a regular season extension. This is the second time in a few weeks that the netizen has said things that leave doubts about his future in New York. At the very least, what will the roster look like if the team buckles down and pays him the big AAV he supposedly wants?

Mollie Walker of The New York Post broke the story and added that Shesterkin could seek as much as $12 million per season in his next contract. So much for the hometown discount. He recently commented, “I love the organization, I love the team, I love the fans. So, it would be nice to stay here, but you never know what could happen.”

Adam Herman of Bleacher Report says the Rangers will have no choice but to pay Shesterkin because he hides the biggest weakness of the team, which is “The New York Rangers won the President’s Trophy and made the Eastern Conference Final last year even though they finished. 11th in goals expected and, more importantly, 23rd in 5-on-5.” If he’s not in goal for them, they’re not that good. He doesn’t come up when the Rangers allow a ton of shots.

Frank Seravalli reports:

“Contract negotiations are ongoing with #NYR and Igor Shesterkin. Believe it or not, the Rangers are too bothered by the reported ‘deadline’ to make a deal before the draft season begins. Safe to say: Shesterkin is the best in #NYR, got a higher AAV than Carey Price, but there are limitations.

Evander Kane Is Out For At Least Six Months

During the discussion of I’m back Yer’ On the podcast, Ryan Rishaug and Jason Strudwick discussed the statement released by the Edmonton Oilers regarding Kane’s recovery timeline. Rishaug revealed what he believed to be the key statement that Kane would be out for a “minimum” of six months.

That puts his return in March or later. If it goes into April, which Strudwick thinks it will, that means he may not return for the regular season and won’t be available until the playoffs. Many insiders think there is no way the Oilers will have Kane on the ice before the NHL trade deadline and there is real talk the team believes he could be out for the rest of the season.

Bruins lowballed Swayman and the pressure was on

Ryan Whitney of Spittin’ Chiclets responded to Bruins GM Don Sweeney’s recent comments in which he expressed his frustration with what he saw as lies about the Bruins not talking to Jeremy Swayman or holding a phone call to negotiate. Whitney says he knows full well that the Bruins lowballed Swayman and messed up the negotiations.

Now, the belief is that Swayman is grinding and Paul Bissonette said that if Joonas Korpisalo does not play well to start the season, the team may have no choice but to bite the bullet and pay Swayman what he wants. The hosts of the show say that Sweeney is frustrated with the way this has all happened and that he is just talking about things that bother him on their show.
