Onrait: “And perhaps the most notable restricted free agent right now, Chris is Jeremy Swayman of the Bruins. Linus Ullmark will face Ottawa early in the season. Swayman is the clear number one in Boston. Can anyone update on those conversations between Boston and Swayman?”

Johnston: “Yes, the fact that that trade was made tells you that Swayman gained a lot of leverage in these negotiations. I mean he had such a great start to his career. His numbers are among the best goalscorers in line with any comparison he and his side bring to the table. And so, you know, obviously you want something big.

What I will say is this, there has been speculation on Swayman going forward. The sense I get is that there is much less concern within the conversations, behind the scenes, about the people involved in those conversations than there is in terms of some of the public conversations.

And kind of like I talked about Perfetti going on a Vegas press trip on behalf of the Jets. You know, Swayman was in Boston skating with his teammates. I think that’s a good sign. It is a sign of someone who wants to be there. He wants to have a team. That some of the animosity that might enter into these discussions sometimes does not exist.

And look, we’ll have to see how this plays out in the coming days. It’s very important now, okay, the deadline, it’s a soft deadline, but the start of Camp is a big day to do any of these restricted agent deals. So, for Swayman and the Bruins, I think next week will be a very important deadline in their negotiations.

But, as I said, my opinion is that they will find something to get him into training camp, because it is an important season for the team, and he is an important player in that organization.”
