NHL Rumors: San Jose Sharks, Mario Ferraro, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Patrik Laine

The San Jose Sharks are looking to add to their blue line … They will move Mario Ferraro for a reasonable price

David Pagnotta of the Fourth Season: The San Jose Sharks will be looking to improve their blue line and are expected to target pending UFAs like Sean Walker and Dylan DeMelo.

The Sharks also received calls from other players, including 25-year-old defender Mario Ferraro. He has a year left at $3.25 million. Teams are calling and the price is high and it will take a lot for GM Mike Grier to move him.

Among the teams believed to be interested are the Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks.

NHL Rumors: Artyom Levshunov, Max Domi, Tyler Bertuzzi, and No. 7 Pick

Before the trade deadline Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving was looking at Ferraro and RFA forward Luke Kunin.

The Sharks met with Kunin’s agent last week to discuss an extension.

Columbus Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell hopes to be able to talk to Laine

Brian Hedger of the Columbus Dispatch: GM Columbus Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell said Thursday that he is trying to talk to Patrik Laine personally. TSN reported Wednesday that Laine does not want to play in Columbus and that the two sides are looking at a trade.

Laine’s agent Andy Scott did not return a request for comment.

Trading Laine wouldn’t be easy given his two years remaining at $8.7 million and the fact that he has been on the relief program since January 28. He was also injured last season and played only 18 games.

“Laine is the one (big) issue that everybody knows about, so there’s no hiding from that,” Waddell said last week. “We all know he’s a hell of a player, so the first question people will ask me when that name comes up is, ‘What’s going on with him?’ And I tell them, ‘I’m working on that.’ “

NHL rumors: Jacob Markstrom, Mitch Marner, and Patrik Laine
