Tyler Yaremchuk: “Okay, the last one I have for you, you know, one story I’m surprised we didn’t see, or one thing we didn’t see come to fruition was the extension of Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh. . We had heard some talk earlier in the summer that maybe it was close, but it hasn’t come yet. So I want to ask you if there is anything to be done there. Doesn’t Sidney Crosby have a new extension yet, Frank?”

Seravalli: “It’s a bit surprising. I think there was initial talk that most of this deal was done last November and December. I think everybody seems to agree, at least from a speculative standpoint, that three years, $30 million, $10 million a year, would make a lot of sense.

NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, and Detroit Red Wings

I think I understand the situation, I think the Penguins would like him to go even longer. They want four years or so, to try to help push that AAV down.

And I, if I’m Sidney Crosby, watching this team and where it’s trending, and, I miss the playoffs, how long do you want to play? I think it’s a really valid question. And signing a four-year or three-year contract, I don’t do that, how much sense does that make. I mean, this is going to be, what is this Sid, the 20th, 21st season? As it is, there are many. This is his 20th season.”

Gregor: “He’s in good shape, but look, he’s 36 years old. He just finished 12th in scoring. He had his third highest goal total. For me, Frank, the big question is how long do you want to play in a team that has no chance of winning? And I wrote this….”

Seravalli: “No, he’s never leaving Pittsburgh, man.”

Gregor: “And that’s fine, but to be honest, I think the best thing for both sides would be a mid-season trade at the deadline. You will find out more about Sidney Crosby. He goes to a contending team and Pittsburgh begins to rebuild. I agree with you. It might not happen, but it would be the best decision.”

Yaremchuk: “Be the best for everyone. Would you consider covering the Sidney Crosby trade at the deadline? It could be electricity.”

Gregor: “Well, imagine a city getting Sidney Crosby in a deal. Are you kidding me?

NHL Rumors: Why Are the Red Wings Looking Longer With Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond?

Yaremchuk: “It would be a waste. It can be, yes. “

Gregor: “I know you’re saying there’s no chance, Frank, but I’m telling you, it could be, that could be one of them, I think it’s probably the biggest trade deadline acquisition in NHL history, I’d argue now that the grants have been found. I’m selling one maybe it could be but it’s going to be great.”
