NHL Rumors: Where Things Will Go With Alexei Kolosov and the Philadelphia Flyers

Bukaukas: “Let’s go to Philadelphia next, Elliotte. Alexei Kolosov, their little hope for goal setting. We discussed, a few years ago, how promising his idea of coming to Philadelphia was. It seemed that he would stay at home in Russia.

There have been discussions about whether the Flyers will trade him and other teams will get him, do they think they had a chance to bring them? Sounds like all that was avoided. You will come to Philly. How did the Flyers and Kolosov fix all this?”

Friedman: “My friend said that Daniel Briere should be called as the Russian ambassador, because he seems to be able to solve many problems here, Michkov, Fedotov and now Kolosov.

Now, the bottom line is, Kolosov has a contract. And you know, I think in all of our lives, unless you have a really good reason, if you sign a contract, you have to live up to its terms, right? So, Kolosov has a contract.

From what I heard, and I didn’t talk to him, but I heard that he really thought he might have a better way to the NHL than what was shown at the end of last year, or he thought it might be this year.

But what matters is the signed contract. And the NHL feels very strongly that even though it doesn’t have all the agreements, it has them, you have to respect each other’s contracts. So I think Kolosov realized that, of course.

This has been intense the last few days, but one of the things about Flyers is that they are very careful not to say anything because until they get on the next flight, you just never know what’s going to happen. But he is on his way back.

I believe he will play exhibition games. I believe he will play for an American Hockey League team to start the year, unless something happens, like an injury or something that puts him in the NHL right away.

For me, the big question is that, and all the number of these players have, the European distribution clause. And you know, there are some players who have it at the beginning of the season. There are some players who admit that they will not put it there until a certain part of the year. Like, I’m going to play in the AHL until, say, because of the concussion, December 15th, and then I’ll go back if I’m not in the NHL right now.

I believe there is some kind of understanding here that there will be an option open to him if he is not in the NHL at some point. But the best thing he can do is show up and play well, because that’s the only thing, or the best thing, that will get him into the National Hockey League.”

Charlie O’Connor: “FWIW, I asked Kolosov’s agent Dan Milstein about speculation that the two sides reached an understanding about a possible loan back to the KHL if he doesn’t get NHL time. He replied that he could not comment on “baseless rumours.” Take that for what you will.”
