‘No improvement’: Ben Jacobs gives update on Arsenal’s pursuit of 25-year-old
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Victor Osimhen in recent months.
The Napoli striker is expected to move on this summer and the Gunners have been monitoring him. According to Ben Jacobs at Give Me Sport, Arsenal’s move to sign the Nigerian-born international is currently on hold due to the asking price.
Napoli want to pay for the 25-year-old striker and Arsenal are now looking at other options. Jacobs says Benjamin Sesko, Evan Ferguson and Viktor Gyokeres are options for Arsenal this summer.
Jacobs said: “Yes, I think Arsenal are still holding out on a striker. But it’s clear that’s the kind of profile they’re looking for, and they feel it’s missing.
“And together with Benjamin Sesko, they considered Evan Ferguson and Viktor Gyokeres, but rejected Ivan Toney.
“And even if we hear reports that Arsenal are moving for Victor Osimhen, the money is so cheap that there is no progress at this stage.
“It’s a long window, of course, but there are better prices and smaller profiles of strikers that Arsenal are prioritizing at this time.”
It will be interesting to see who they end up signing. It’s no secret that Arsenal will have to bring in a quality goalscorer this summer.
Gabriel Jesus scored just four goals in the league last season and the Gunners need to improve. They need someone to lead them on the line and score goals non-stop. Someone like Osimhen would also be a quality addition. He proved to be a reliable goalscorer for Napoli and helped them win the league title in the 2022-23 season.
Osimhen would improve Arsenal
The Nigerian is already active at world level and could replace Arsenal in the bottom three. However, Arsenal are unlikely to pay for him that badly, and it will be interesting to see if Napoli decide to lower their price for the striker in the coming weeks.
Osimhen has been linked with other English clubs and it remains to be seen where he ends up. He has proven himself in Italian football and may be looking to take on a new challenge at this stage of his career.
A move to Arsenal would be an exciting opportunity for him. The Gunners have been pushing for the league title for the past two seasons and with the right additions, they can go all the way.
